Think, Act, Serve, and Love
Scripture
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. (2 Corinthians 10.3-5)

Devotional Thought
In our witness for the Lord, we needn’t resort to the world’s tactics. There is enough bombast in society without us adding our own. How, then, are we to “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God”? Let me suggest a few tactics:
- First, “take every thought captive to obey Christ.” That means we need to think like Jesus. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12.2).
- Beyond our thoughts being changed, our behavior must be changed as well. We think like Jesus in order to act like Jesus.
- Then, we need to serve and sacrifice like Jesus. Paul wrote to the Philippians: “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians. 2.5-8).
- Finally, we need to love like Jesus. Logical arguments can be raised against logic. There is no argument against love. Jesus himself said that our Christian witness will be confirmed by our love (John 13.35).
Life is not like a football game where the opposing players are dressed in different uniforms so that you can easily distinguish between the teams. Instead, we are all mixed up. What distinguishes Christians are our thoughts, our actions, our service, and our love.
Prayer
Jesus, though I walk in the flesh, I want to do so in the way that you did - with thoughts, actions, motives, and love that will destroy the strongholds and arguments of sin. Amen.
