The Mystery Revealed

Scripture
And he swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay!” (Revelation 10.6)

Devotional Thought

John encountered a mighty angel, standing on sea and land. Though forbidden to reveal the entire mystery of this angelic visit, John was able to share some things the angel said...

Jesus lives forever and ever. John previously described Jesus in this way: “In the beginning was the Word…” (John 1.1). You see Jesus predates all creation history. Not only is this so, but Jesus will bring history to a close. Jesus will defeat every enemy of God and God’s people – the final victory being the victory over death. With the closing of history, Jesus will hand over all things to God (1 Corinthians 15.28). What better Master to follow than he who will be Master at the end?

Jesus is the Creator of all things. John had also written of Jesus: “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” (John 1.3). If you want to know how to fix something, where do you go? To the maker! Jesus is the Maker of our lives. What better Maker to go to when we need repaired than to him who made us in the first place?

There will be no more delay. For now, you and I experience delay. We "groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies" (Romans 8.23). In this life, we are subject to trials and troubles. Our bodies age, and our faculties weaken. And the frequency of sickness and sorrow increases with the passing of years. But one day, the trumpet of God will sound, and Jesus will return to take us home. "The mystery of God will be accomplished" (v. 7).

Amen!

Prayer

Eternal Son of God, Maker of all things, I bow before you in humble adoration. Thank you for revealing to me the mystery of your great love and eternal plan. Amen.
