The Authority of His Christ
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (Revelation 12.10-11)
In Revelation 11, we read how God will consolidate the power of all earthly kingdoms under his reign. In Revelation 12, we see who will accomplish that: Jesus Christ.
Revelation 12 looks forward to the end of all things by looking back – back to the birth of Christ. Jesus Christ came in history so that he might rule over history and direct its conclusion, leading people back to God. God did not leave us weak and helpless, trapped by sin. No, he came in the person of Jesus Christ to bring salvation from sin! He came to bring us power through the indwelling Spirit! We are over-comers by the blood of the Lamb!
With the arrival and ministry of Christ, with his death and resurrection, the outcome of this cosmic battle is assured: God and his people are victorious! Satan has been completely and utterly defeated. Jesus took death, Satan’s weapon (See Hebrews 2.14), and turned it against him. By defeating death, Jesus defeated Satan! We now live in the victory of God's kingdom by the authority of his Christ! Hallelujah!
Not only are we over-comers by the blood of the Lamb, which provides the power for our victory, we also are over-comers by the word of our testimony, which provides the conduit for this power! God has given us the authority to speak our victory! God invites you and I to invoke the name, and thereby the power, of Jesus! Again, I say, “Hallelujah!”
Lord, I know that there is no name other than Jesus "given among men by which we must be saved!" I exalt the powerful name of Jesus today! Amen.
