I Charge You
by Steve Sears
Scripture
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 4.1)

Devotional Thought
The Apostle Paul gave a clear and concise charge to those who would read his letter. Since we are included in that group, what he says here certainly applies to us. With this in mind, let us take a few minutes to consider Paul's charge:
- Preach the Word (v. 2): Some may think this only applies to preachers and pastors. However, I believe it is for all people. The way we talk, the places we go, and the things we believe speak clearly. Live out the Word of God.
- Insist on Truth (vv. 3-4): I think Paul must have looked ahead right to today. People don't want to hear the truth. But God has NOT changed his mind. His Word still stands true, pure, and unchanging. Sin is still sin, and the wages for sin is still death. As followers of Jesus, we must not allow his message to be watered down and diluted!
- Remain Faithful (v. 7): Paul fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. What a great testimony! He faced challenges, hardships and opposition, and remained faithful. When I come to the end of my journey and I stand before God, I want to hear the words, "Well done good and faithful servant."
- Gain the Crown (v. 8): Think of it. We will kneel at the feet of Jesus, and he will, with his own nail scared hands, place the crown of righteousness on our heads. Truly, it will be worth it all when we see Jesus!
Prayer
Lord, I embrace this charge as my own - to live according to your Word - your Word is truth - to remain faithful, and to gain the crown. Amen.
