For Me?
by John Wade
Scripture
To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him... (Revelation 2.1-2)
Today’s Reading
Devotional Thought
I feel a little nosy when I read the messages in Revelation to the seven churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. Yet, I must confess that I see many of their same situations repeated in churches today - and, if I'm honest, in my own life.
Perhaps these letters are for you, too...
- The words of him who... holds the seven stars and walks among the seven golden lampstands; is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again; has the sharp double-edged sword; has eyes like blazing fire and feet like burnished bronze; holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars; is holy and true; holds the key of David; is the Amen, the faithful and true witness, and the ruler of God’s creation. Are you impressed?
- I know... He knows everything. He knows yesterday, today and tomorrow. Are you comforted? Frightened?
- To him who overcomes... There is a reward for believing and hanging in there. Regardless of what you have done. If your heart is right, you will overcome because he has overcome. Are you standing firm?
- He who has an ear, let him hear... Regardless of the conditions you live in, Jesus is calling to you. If you are listening, then you will hear. But hearing is more than just hearing. It is heeding. Are you listening?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I bow before you in worship. You are the First and the Last. You died and came to life again. You are the faithful and true witness, ruler of God's creation. I praise you. Amen.
