Daily Reading: Revelation 4-5
Scripture Focus: And they sang a new song... (Revelation 5.9a)
Devotional Thought: Yesterday was an exciting day! Our choir started back up after taking some time off for the summer. Lana told us about some new songs and a new Christmas musical. We practiced some of the new songs as well as a few of the old favorites! I love them both - the new and the old.
Someone once observed that heaven is "the homeland of music." We see that in Revelation 5, where that great heavenly choir sings a new song! What is that song? It is a song to Jesus! "Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation!"
Aren't you glad that he has ransomed you by his blood? Aren't you glad that he took you from the darkness of sin and brought you into the kingdom of his light? You and I at one time were foreigners and aliens to the kingdom of God, but we have been redeemed by Jesus!
We will be singing that new song forever and ever! One day Jesus will gather us to himself and the heavenly orchestra will strike the first chord. We will join our voices together and praise our Lord and Savior!
I can't wait to sing in that choir!
Prayer: Jesus, I praise you for redeeming me from sin and delivering me into your kingdom. Help me to sing every day from a heart overflowing with joy and freedom. You are worthy! Amen.
Psalm of the Day: 1 Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2 The LORD has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 4 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! 5 Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! 6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD! 7 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! 8 Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together 9 before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. (Psalms 98:1-9)
