Daily Reading: Joshua 19
Scripture Focus: Because the portion of the people of Judah was too large for them, the people of Simeon obtained an inheritance in the midst of their inheritance. (Joshua 19.9)
Devotional Thought: I just finished a "grandchild bunk house" in my basement. It is a simple room with a futon and a mattress for when the kids are home to see Nana and Pahpooh. I had been wanting to do this for a while, but had never gotten started because the room was such a mess. I didn't know where to begin! One day I asked our friend Hannah to come over and help me clean the room up. That got me started.
Simeon was one of the tribes who had not yet possessed their inheritance in the Promised Land. Joshua had asked them, "How long are you going to wait?" Sometimes we need a little push to get started, don't we? Not only so, we may need some help, too! That's what the people of Judah provided for the people of Simeon. And, the help they provided turned out to be just the thing they themselves needed, for "the portion of the people of Judah was too large for them."
By coming together, both Simeon and Judah were helped in receiving God's promise and achieving God's purpose.
What promise and purpose from God are you waiting to see fulfilled? Is there somebody with whom you need to partner to help you get started? Don't hesitate to ask for help. It will not only help you, it will be a blessing to them as well!
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the promises and purposes you have for me. Help me to receive and achieve them as I partner with others in the work of the Kingdom. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 41.10-13
10 But you, O Lord, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may repay them!
11 By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me. 12 But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.
13 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen.
