Daily Reading: John 3
Scripture Focus: And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God. (John 3.19-21)
Devotional Thought: When we believe John 3.16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son" - we come into the light of God’s kingdom and have eternal life! We then live in the light of God, with not only our actions, but our motives illuminated by Truth.
But, the Bible is clear – and human experience confirms this – that not everyone wants to come into the light. There are people and systems that prefer to operate in darkness. From business to banking, from politics to personal relationships, you can find people in darkness. “But people loved darkness rather than the light because their works were evil."
But we are not to live that way. Those who live by the Truth, gladly come into the light. As a matter of fact, they purposely come into the light “so that it may be clearly seen” that what they are doing is in full agreement with the Truth. Instead of obstructing and obfuscating, we must live in the light and be scrutinized by the Light!
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for sending your Son as "the light of the world." Help me to not only follow the light, but to live in the light, so that others can clearly see the greatness of your works. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 33.8-15
8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
13 The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man;
14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,
15 he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds.
