Jesus Sees, Speaks & Prevails

Daily Reading: Revelation 2

Scripture Focus: The words of the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and whose feet are like burnished bronze. (Revelation 2.18)

Devotional Thought: In Revelation 2, we read the message of Jesus to several churches in Asia Minor. As he spoke to the church at Thyatira, he identified himself as having eyes like a flame of fire, feet like burnished bronze, and words to share with his church. As I read that I thought, "Jesus sees. Jesus prevails. Jesus speaks."

Jesus sees with eyes like a flame of fire. Yesterday was a full eclipse, and we were reminded that we need the sun to light our days, otherwise we are not able to see. Jesus is different, though. He supplies his own light. He is the light, and his eyes are a burning radiance that illuminates everything to him. When others don't know, when they don't understand, we can be confident that he sees through all our darkness and despair.

Jesus prevails over all of his enemies, treading over them with feet like burnished bronze. Jesus has been through the fire of death and grave and hell. He trampled those enemies with his feet of victory and strength. Having passed through those fires himself, he has shown himself to be the Victor over all our problems as well. His feet have gone where you struggle now. He has overcome. He comes to you now, so that you, too, may prevail with him.

Jesus speaks as the Son of God. He speaks to the Father for us, and he speaks to us from the Father. His words are trustworthy. They are power. They are life. He speaks with all the authority of heaven. Hear him and find strength for the day.

Jesus sees. Jesus speaks. Jesus prevails.

Prayer: Jesus, Son of God, in you I find direction, victory, and confidence. You see. You speak. You prevail. I trust in you. Amen.

Psalm of the Day: 1 The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! 2 Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 3 Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around. 4 His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. 5 The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. 7 All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods! (Psalms 97:1-7)
