Daily Reading: Hebrews 2
Scripture Focus: For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. (Hebrews 2.16)
Devotional Thought: Anytime you unpack scripture, there’s way more than can be done in just five minutes. Hebrews 2, does not disappoint.
God has created all things, and everything is marvelous. Nothing would be created or continue to exist without God. All creation needs God’s help in some manner to continue to be. This is very true in the specific cases of angels and of human beings. The Bible doesn't have many details about angels, but then, the Bible is not written for angels. It is written for us, the offspring of Abraham, the believers in Christ. It is written to us and for us.
The focus of Hebrews 2, is the salvation of mankind. No big surprise. Salvation is the focus of the entire Bible. But, it is not the angels who need God’s help for salvation, it is mankind itself.
God’s specific help for our salvation is Jesus. Hebrews 2, shows how it is so helpful. Jesus had to be made just like us so he could be the perfect mediator and the perfect sacrifice. He knows what it is to be human and to be God.
Thank God that he has created human beings and angels. Thank God that he has provided the help that sinful man needs for salvation and reconciliation to him. And beware, lest . . . "ow shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? " (Hebrews 2:3).
John
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for providing the way. I’ll take all the help I can get. Amen!
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 46.8-11
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
