Even Bigger!

Daily Reading: Ephesians 3

Scripture Focus: Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3.20-21)

Devotional Thought: Once when I was spreading mulch in my backyard, my pickup truck sank down in a soft place. No matter what I tried, I could not get it unstuck. I even tried to lift it by the back bumper. I only ended up tearing my tendon loose from my bicep. That hurt! I called my friend Phil who had a tractor. Pulling my truck from the mud was not a problem for him at all!

We get stuck in the mud sometimes, don't we? We try and try and try, but we are just not able to lift ourselves out by our own bootstraps. When we strain too much, we end up hurting ourselves. God, however is not limited. Consider what Paul says in these two verses:

  • God works. God is able to do. God is a doer. He is not passive, as the deist's "watchmaker God" who winds up the world and then goes on his way to let it run itself. No, God is involved in the workings of his world. He will never leave us or forsake us! Whatever you are going through, rest in the assurance that God is working!

  • God exceeds. God is able to do more than we ask or think. He exceeds our human powers. He even exceeds our human imaginations. He is not limited by anything!

  • God works in us. God is able to work in us. He is not limited by our humanity. As a matter of fact, Paul says in another place that his power is made perfect in our weakness! No problem, no deficiency, no obstacle can prevent him from working in you.

Are you stuck in the mud? Call God! He's got the biggest tractor you can imagine. Even bigger!

Prayer: Father, thank you that your power is not limited by anything. Lift me up from the miry clay, I pray. Amen.

Psalm of the Day: 1 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights! 2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! 3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! 4 Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD! For he commanded and they were created. 6 And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away. (Psalms 148:1-6)
