Daily Reading: Titus 1
At his appointed season he brought his word to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior. (Titus 1:3, NIV)
Devotional Thought: Like 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus is one of the “Pastoral Epistles” - letters the Apostle Paul sent to his young pastors, instructing and encouraging them in ministry. I love what Paul wrote in verse 3: “At his appointed season...”
As you stop to contemplate it, you will find some wonderful truths in this verse alone:
God has an “appointed season.” That is good news when we find ourselves in a “holding pattern” in our prayers! When I pray for healing, I try to remember that God's appointed season may not yet have arrived. His healing season may be at the time of the resurrection. God wants to show his grace is sufficient in the time between prayer and answer! But take heart, there is an appointed season! God has all things under control!
God will bring his word to light in the appointed season. When we have endured, we shall reign with him. We shall understand fully, for we shall be like Jesus, seeing him as he is (See 1 John 3.1). So, let us who have believed the Word of God, “purify ourselves” (1 John 3.3) in steadfast hope even in the time of waiting.
God entrusts his Word to us. What a privilege to so live and speak that others may know the hope of the resurrection! Don’t “hide your light under a basket”! Instead, let the light of faith and hope shine in all your actions and conversations. You will be amazed at how God will use you to bring his kingdom into the dark and desperate places you may find yourself. He trusts you! Amazing!
Don’t wait for your circumstances to change. Instead, let today be your appointed season to trust, to speak, and to live abundantly in Christ!
Prayer: Lord, I am so glad that you have made an appointment with me and with all those who love you. Help us to wait faithfully, prayerfully, and hopefully until you bring your word to light. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 119:57-64
57 The LORD is my portion; I promise to keep your words.
58 I entreat your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.
59 When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies;
60 I hasten and do not delay to keep your commandments.
61 Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me, I do not forget your law.
62 At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules.
63 I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts.
64 The earth, O LORD, is full of your steadfast love; teach me your statutes!
